Get to know Nick Simmons
Nick Simmons has 12 years of public policy experience at the national, state and local levels, is running to serve in the state Senate, representing New Canaan, Greenwich and Stamford. He recently served as deputy chief of staff to Gov. Ned Lamont where he helped lead the design and implementation of policies that included the investments of hundreds of millions of dollars in Connecticut schools and infrastructure to grow the state economy, training thousands of workers and fighting climate change.
He holds dual masters degrees from Harvard in public policy and business with an objective to learn how the public, private and nonprofit sectors could work more collaboratively to tackle society’s biggest challenges.
In describing his outlook, Simmons says: “I know the returns that lower taxes, lower costs, and investments in public infrastructure can make. We need to continue to grow our economy and can do so by lowering costs for all Connecticut residents. We need to secure more state funding to help rebuild our crumbling schools, and to transform the conditions on our highways, roads and train stations.”
Adding to that, he says: “We need to fight everyday to eliminate gun violence and defend women’s rights. And we need to fight climate change by preparing our beaches and coastlines, and making smart investments to transition to a clean energy economy.”
