Former U.S. Senator Christopher Dodd receives Presidential Citizens Medal
For his long service to the nation, Chris Dodd, was awarded the nation’s second highest civilian honor last week, the Presidential Citizens Medal, at a ceremony led by President Joseph Biden.
Dodd represented Connecticut in the U.S. Senate from 1981 to 2011, and before that represented eastern Connecticut in the U.S. House from 1975 to 1981, continuing the public service record of his father, former U.S. Senator Thomas Dodd. Another recipient at the event was former U.S. Rep. Liz Cheney of Wyoming.
U.S. Rep. John Larson, Connecticut’s 1st District, said Dodd’s lifetime of public service is unparalleled. “Intelligence, wit and the determination to legislate in the best interests of citizens of this country are a badge he will always wear,” he said. “I can think of no one more richly deserving of this great honor.”
As chair of the Senate Banking Committee, he spearheaded the Dodd-Frank bill that reformed the financial service industry.
