CT Attorney General William Tong elected president of National AG association
Reflecting the high regard he has earned from his colleagues, Connecticut Attorney General William Tong was unanimously elected to serve as president of the National Association of Attorneys General, heading the bipartisan team of state officers across the country.
“My new role ensures that Connecticut will lead on strategy and outcome for some of the most consequential multi-state legal actions and efforts,” he said. “This includes efforts to hold the social media giants accountable for the harm their platforms have inflicted on a generation of American youth. This includes our ongoing work to hold the entire addiction industry accountable for the opioid epidemic. This includes our work to hold Big Pharma and the generic drug industry accountable for out-of-control prescription drug costs. This includes our work to hold the world’s major chemical manufacturers accountable for the proliferation of toxic forever chemicals, and the damage they have caused to our health and environment.”
Tong also issued a year-end report to Connecticut, highlighting the stresses shared by Connecticut residents. “We are all under a lot of pressure -- squeezed financially and emotionally by forces that can seem way beyond our control,” he noted. “We worry about our kids and the endless stream of harmful social media content. We worry about the cost of prescription drugs, groceries, and utilities. We worry about the safety of pervasive chemicals and toxic products and what that means for our health and our environment. We worry about our rights and freedoms -- our ability to live our lives and choose our future free from political interference. It's my job as your Attorney General to push back and give you space to breathe.”
Among his concerns, Tong identifies rising costs for utilities, healthcare and in the supermarkets where costs have risen but the packaging has gotten smaller.
