Sen. Maher speaks to New Canaan Men’s Club
Sen. Ceci Maher recently spoke to the New Canaan Men’s Club, providing the organization with updates on the legislative session and taking questions from the membership. “I had a good morning with the knowledgeable members of the New Canaan Men’s Club who welcomed me to provide updates from the 2025 legislative session,” she said.
In the conversation, she discussed workforce housing, electric utility costs, Connecticut’s economy, necessary steps to support the environment, measures to protect our youth and the impacts of federal cuts on Connecticut.
On workforce housing, she spoke of the issue’s importance to being able to attract employees to New Canaan, whether it’s for teaching positions, or to staff town departments. Given costs, many town employees have to commute a significant distance, but addressing the issue needs to be done in a way that preserves the nature of the town. As for electric rates, she described how the charges encompass a complex formula that results from an agreement aimed at keeping the Millstone nuclear power plant operating in eastern Connecticut, as well as rising costs of maintaining major transmission lines. She also pointed out that this is not just a Connecticut issue, electric costs are a concern felt across New England.
