"Hearts of Freedom" Juneteenth Community Celebration hosted by Stand Together Against Racism (S.T.A.R)

  • New Canaan Museum & Historical Center Lawn 13 Oenoke Ridge New Canaan, CT, 06840 United States (map)

Stand Together Against Racism hosted their second annual Community Juneteenth Celebration was a huge success! The soul food from Miss Thelma's was out of this world, we painted alongside artist 5iveFingaz who lead us in creating a community graffiti wall for Juneteenth, while we enjoyed the amazing music from The Misfits! This new tradition is becoming one of our favorites bringing the whole community together and celebrating such a significant day.

The Misfits were on fire with their music, everyone was dancing, it was amazing!

5ivefingaz was such an inspiring artist, putting brushes into the hands of our community. It was beautiful!

Miss Thelma's Soul Food was not kidding around. These guys were cooking up a storm serving the best jerk chicken and pork you can find in this neck of the woods. Not to mention, that macaroni salad was anything but ordinary.

Did you know… Red foods can have symbolic meaning for Juneteenth. Red is a significant color associated with Juneteenth as it represents resilience, perseverance, and the bloodshed of enslaved African Americans in their struggle for freedom. Many people incorporate red foods into their Juneteenth celebrations as a way to honor and remember the sacrifices and resilience of their ancestors. Red foods such as red velvet cake, red punch, watermelon, red beans and rice, and red barbecue dishes are commonly enjoyed during Juneteenth gatherings. The color red serves as a powerful reminder of the history and significance of Juneteenth.
