A Heartfelt thank you to Kathleen Corbet

With the 2023 election, Kathleen Corbet, a longtime town leader across a variety of positions, decided she would step down from the Board of Selectman. While raising a family and pursuing a distinguished career in finance with senior management positions in companies such as Standard & Poor’s, BlackRock, and now at Cross Ridge Capital, Kathleen Corbet never hesitated to make time for service to our town of New Canaan.

“Since 2006  Kathleen Corbet has been an integral part of New Canaan town government having served in various capacities,” said Christina Fagerstal, DTC chair. “She has been dedicated to promoting the best interests of the town by using her knowledge of finance. She has distinguished her  leadership by  working in collaborative ways  to achieve results  and by  promoting principles of sound governance.”

She currently serves on the Board of Directors of Mass Mutual Financial Group as its Audit, Investment Committee chair. Through it all, Kathleen has found time to be a pillar of the town’s leadership. Here are just some of her positions in municipal government:

·  Board of Selectman 2020-2023

·  Town Council 2013-2017

·  Town Hall Building Committee 2012-2014

·  Connecticut Housing Finance Authority 2012-2014

·  Senior Health Care & Policy Development Teams 2011-2012 and Tele-Health Team 2012-2013

·  Board of Finance 2006-2010

·  Best practices Municipal Budgeting Task Force Chair, 2008

Having moved to New Canaan in 1996 Kathleen Corbet felt an immediate interest in giving back to the town “we loved as a family,” as she put it. A postcard inviting her to join the DTC was the initial impetus for what would be a long commitment to serve in town offices, beginning with serving as an alternate on the Board of Finance.

“I found through the DTC, Board of Finance, Town Council and Board of Selectmen a way to apply the skill set I had in finance, investments and board governance.”

Kathleen Corbet

Those positions are only part of the dedication Kathleen has exhibited as she has also been an integral part of the fabric of many charitable organizations that make New Canaan what it is. Here is a sampling of those New Canaan organizations:

·  Waveny LifeCare Network, Board of Directors 2018-2023 and Chairman, 2020-2021 where Kathleen established the Kathleen M. Fruin RN CAN School in her mother’s honor.

·  New Canaan Community Foundation, Board Member, 2012-2014

·  League of Women Voters, Treasurer, 2007-2010 and St Mark’s Church, Treasurer

But Kathleen’s contributions are not limited to her official positions. She is always there to advise and extend her home for a variety of worthy causes.

Kathleen, from the bottom of our hearts, we thank you for the contributions you’ve made to the town and, for your continued willingness to serve and be here for New Canaan in numerous ways.
